Great Lakes Hospice
The Positive Choice for End-of-Life Care
Great Lakes Hospice is a Medicare-certified and state licensed agency that provides the highest quality end-of-life care in the homes of the terminally ill. Hospice gives patients the opportunity to make their own decisions about how and where they wish to live the remainder of their lives, while continuing to receive a superior level of care.
What is Hospice?
Hospice is both a type of and philosophy of care that concentrates on treating terminally ill patients—not to stop the progression of their disease, but to lessen the severity of its progression—so that they may live the rest of their lives with dignity.
Hospice patients receive compassionate care and assistance with daily activities in the comfort, security and privacy of their own homes, along with pain control, symptom management, end-of-life support and medical care services.
Hospice not only addresses the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient, but those needs of friends and family as well. Spiritual care, bereavement and grief counseling services are provided to the family during the duration of the terminal illness and for 13 months thereafter.
Many hospice services are perpetuated by a hospice foundation—a not-for-profit entity that works in conjunction with hospice to help meet the special and extraordinary needs of terminally ill patients. Learn about the Great Lakes Hospice Foundation here.

Palliative Care
Palliative care is characterized as any form of medical health care or treatment that focuses on reducing the severity of chronic disease symptoms. It is different from standard care, which strives to halt, delay or reverse progression of the disease itself. Palliative care is provided under Great Lakes Hospice to maximize the physical, social, emotional and spiritual comfort of the patient.
