What is Private Duty Care?
Simply, private duty care provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) within the home of an individual. Private duty services designed to eliminate the need for unnecessary institutionalization by creating a safe living environment for individuals who choose to remain in their home, fostering independence and facilitating rehabilitation.
Standard services of private duty care include assistance with ADLs like bathing, grooming, shopping for groceries and meal preparation. Other care services can range anywhere from medical aid like physical therapy and nursing care, to simple acts like reading, conversing and offering companionship.
Private duty typically does not require a prescription or physician order. However, patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility can REQUEST private duty care on their own to avoid being discharged to another care provider, as it is their CHOICE to decide where they receive such care.
